Remember my woe over Small Girl’s Quilt? Yesterday, when we were in Shropshire, Big Girl reminded me of my obligations, and forced me to buy this blue batik fabric from a shop that stank of incense (they had carved wooden blocks for doing your own batik printing- I coveted them very much.) I then whinged all the way home about how Nothing Would Go With Blue, And I Didn’t Feel Like Blue, I Felt Like Green…
Small Girl is tired today. Small Girl stayed out all night partying. Clearly Small Girl needs a quilt as a matter of some urgency.
I found the Green I wanted to work with in the stash.
But Green doesn’t really mix well with Blue. However, I found Indigo, lurking in my wardrobe. We’re all beginning to see where this is heading, right…?
I made a plan.
(I have new felt tips. New felt tips make me happy. Squared paper also makes me happy. I even did trigonometry happily.)
Big Girl approves of the plan. She has appointed herself my assistant quiltmaker. She says rainbows are Very Iona.
So I just need to buy red, orange, yellow and purple. And figure out what colour to use for the sashing (if it were my quilt, I’d want black, so it looked like stained glass, but I’m wondering about sky blue for Small Girl. Really I want clouds… do you suppose you can get blue-summer-sky-with-clouds fabric…?) Naturally, this is going to involve visiting fabric shops in the near future. Fabric shops make me happy…

*Wails* I don’t get it. How does the row at the top turn into the triangles at the bottom?
That took me aaaages to figure, hence erroneous lines on top row. Look at the zigzagging black diagonals on the top stripy row, and ignore everything else. Cutting it like that will give alternate long red stripe and long purple stripe. Simple, non?
But don’t you want the red/purple along the hypotenuse? Ah, I see the triangles are twice the size I thought they were as you won’t cut along the vertical lines.
That looks a very suitable pattern for SG and with a BG to help you it should be a lot easier this time round.
That looks like an excellent plan.
We have a gorgeous fabric shop. I don’t know if it is good or not, but it is a wonderful place as it is full of corners, nooks and crannies, all stuffed with rolls, baskets and piles of fabric.
Fabric shops make me happy too and I never knew it till I worked in one! Can send you some fabric I have if lilac with white stripes is any good (sort of purple-ish) We also have some fab vibrant yellow silky stuff in our remnant bin. I’ll have a look through it on Wednesday when I’m next in the shop – though far be it from me to deprive you of fabric browsing, of course!!
I could bring some yellows and purples with me for you to look through and pick from at the weekend if you like.
